More About Me
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Happy, bright, social, playful, smart and friendly, this Jack Russell Terrier is absolutely adorable.

A solitary or sedate lifestyle is not suited to a Jack Russell Terrier. He loves full participation in the family and vigorous daily play sessions, especially ball chasing, which he tends to be passionate about. However, Bugsy differs from others of this breed in that he is still well behaved if left alone or not exercised - but true dog lovers know this is not ideal.

Testimony to his ability to adapt, Bugsy settled into a new routine 2 years ago with another family, including a dog, after spending his first 7 years with one older chap in isolation. He is definitely a fast learner.

At the park he tends to stick with people rather than playing with other dogs.

During storms Bugsy paces and pants but calms within 15 minutes. He is not destructive.

People who know the breed will understand that, being a normal, cheeky and smart Jack Russell, he will naturally test the boundaries and rules of the home.

Bugsy loves to cuddle but also explore, get out and play games.

Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples looking for a happy, playful companion.
Time poor people please look elsewhere.

While Bugsy can cope alone he prefers company. Hence, he will not suit homes where everyone is busy or working full time.

Another friendly, placid dog would be nice but is not essential.

While he is good with kids we recommend homes where any kids are at least teenagers and only if gentle and calm around dogs. No dog deserves to be rough housed or exposed to a loud, chaotic environment.

He will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.

As Bugsy is people orientated he needs to be part of family activities.

He will not suit homes with residents that are:
  • very young, frail, elderly,
  • renters,
  • novice dog owners or
  • time poor.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.

Bugsy will suit any of the following:
  • someone home more often than not.
  • someone that works from home.
  • part time workers.
  • empty nesters.
  • active retirees.
  • possibly full time workers (9am - 5pm) as long as Bugsy is a central focus when people are home.

Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active. He loves walks and any attention or affection he can get.

When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs starts off pulling but settles.

When OFF a lead ...
Like most dogs his recall is not always consistent. Call him with a happy tone and he generally comes back. Yell at him in panic or irritation and he will not.  Think I'd do the same:-)

Type of Yard Required
  • Medium to large interesting and secure.
  • May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not usually try and escape.
  • Ok with shoulder height fencing.
