In order to meet Hamish please complete the Expression of Interest Form.
Hamish the West Highland White Terrier (or Westie) is friendly, affectionate and super cute. While he is independent he prefers to have the company of humans. He is still ‘full of beans’ when it is walk time but also enjoys snuggling next to you for a nap.
Hamish is curious and interested in the life of his family as well as neighbourhood happenings and will greet friends with a polite wag of the tail.
A place where he is adored and has company almost all the time.
Hamish will gladly shadow his owner around the house and provide steadfast friendship. He will thrive in a home where there is someone home more often than not actively looking for a doggy companion. He would also love a small to medium secure but interesting yard. Families with older kids and a stay at home parent, retirees and people who work from home would suit Hamish. He would love the company of another dog if it is calm, accepting, playful, not aggressive and of a similar size (they will obviously need to meet).
He will not suit homes where residents are young, frail, elderly or time poor.
Yes as long as the other dog is calm, playful and accepting. Dogs, especially large ones, that are allowed to rush into his space frighten Hamish and he will tell them to back off. This is not uncommon.
Hamish is great with kids but for his sake we recommend any kids be primary school aged or older and only if gentle and calm around dogs.
Hamish enjoys daily walks and playing chase with soft toys at home. He has low to moderate exercise requirements.
How is this dog on a lead?
Like most dogs he is ok unless he becomes distracted.
How is this dog off the lead?
Hamish will usually stay close by and come when called however, like most dogs he can get distracted by strong scents – but a treat in your pocket always brings him running back to you.
He is not currently a nuisance barker but will alert you to something strange.
Tolerance to being alone.
Hamish is a good boy when left alone but he prefers human company.
Cuddles with people and sitting on the lap of his special humans.
Thunder, water (including the ocean and puddles), big dogs (frighten him) and not being welcome to join in family activities (makes him sad).
