Other dogs.
Shearer likes to talk, yes talk, and interact with other dogs. He can sometimes become excited and another dog may not appreciate Shearer’s enthusiasm. Ironically Shearer does not like little dogs who are over exuberant.

Cats.
No

Kids.
Yes but he might accidentally knock a child over as Shearer tends to jump up when saying hello. We recommend any kids be primary school aged and older – but only if gentle and kind. Shearer will fret in a loud or chaotic environment.

Size.
22 kgs

Exercise requirements.
Medium - playful and energetic.

How is this dog on a lead?
Shearer is ok unless he sees something exciting. He loves to stop for a sniff when out for walks and will try to get close when meeting new people. Shear is very social.

How is this dog off the lead?
Like many dogs Shearer is sometimes good and sometimes unreliable – it depends if something interesting sparks his interest.

Escape artist.
No. However, we always recommend a dog has a secure yard.

Nuisance barker or destructive.
No

Toilet trained.
Yes. In fact Shearer prefers to use familiar areas like his back yard.

Tolerance to being alone.
Yes.

Likes.
Shearer loves interaction with people. He likes playing tug of war with his chew rope and eating water when squirted at him from the hose.  Running to chase the ball is also a favourite past time.

Dislikes.
Shearer is not fond of swimming in pools or the beach and will not go in – barking at the others who are enjoying the water.  He gets scared during storms.

Ideal home.
Shearer needs a medium to large, secure yard with some grass to play on. He needs daily exercise and makes a great jogging buddy. More than anything Shearer will thrive in an environment where he gets plenty of attention and mental stimulation.

He will not suit homes with very young, frail, elderly or time poor residents.

Generally.
Shearer is a very loyal dog who is eager to please. He loves watching what people are doing around the backyard - especially around a pool. He feels like he is helping out. Shearer loves a routine and will fret when family members go away for long periods of time. He needs a home where he is showered with plenty of affection – pats and cuddles are a must. Say "walkies" and he will come running straight to you, eager to explore and play.
