More About Me
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Rommi is typical of the Whippet breed in that they seem to have a split personality - sensitive and quiet but at times stubborn and head strong. When at home she has a gentle personality, is gracious, low maintenance, calm when she is happy and is amazing to watch run - still very fast!!

Rommi takes time to trust new friends and like most Whippets prefers relaxed rather than busy households. She is not a lap dog but enjoys being in your company, being patted and touching her owner.  When people are home she does not like being shut away and will yip gentle complaints until reunited with her owner.

Rommi likes a consistent routine, a quiet place to retreat and soft fluffy toys. She also likes to have a view. She dislikes fireworks,  storms, vacuums and loud noises around the home.

Ideal Owner
A lady she can bond with looking for a companion, a quiet house with a view, lots of physical comfort, a backyard with grass and bushes for fossicking in, soft toys and a bed that is hers and no one else’s with slow off lead walks in a no-dog area.

Rommi thrives when she can bond with one person, preferably a female, in a calm environment.

She is ok alone, but prefers someone in the house.

Whippets' sensitive nature can make them unhappy in large families and they do not like to be rough housed - chaos makes Whippets anxious.

Rommi should be the only permanent dog in the home so she can have all the attention.

She will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.

Rommie will not suit homes with residents that are:
  • very young, frail, elderly,
  • renters or
  • time poor.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.

Rommi will suit any of the following:
  • someone home more often than not.
  • someone that works from home.
  • part time workers as long as someone is home more often than not.
  • empty nesters.
  • active retirees.

Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active. She likes a good 30 min daily walk without the stress of meeting other dogs. Rommi tends to excitedly rush (sprint) into the space of other dogs who often get startled and react.

When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs Rommi starts off pulling but settles - unless distracted by a cat or another dog.

When OFF a lead ...
Her recall is good unless distracted by a cat (she'll chase it) or another dog (she'll want to rush over and say say hi).

Type of Yard Required
  • Medium to large interesting and secure - she likes grass and bushes to fossick in.
  • May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not  usually try and escape.
  • Will dig underneath if able if frightened e.g. during storms.
