Lutz, a Boerboel, is a powerful, impressive and beautiful looking dog - strong willed but also protective and loyal to the family.
Lutz also has a gentle side and is great with kids. He is friendly with the cows and horses that currently share his rural home. While has not displayed aggression he can accidentally hurt small animals while playing.
Unfortunately, if something triggers his interest Lutz will take off to explore - narrowly being missed by numerous vehicles (people don't tend to stop for a 75 kg dog) and his safety is now at risk. He needs a more secure home.
While Lutz prefers company he can cope alone.
As Lutz is accustomed to rural life he would transition well to acreage where he can roam around with his owner but with a securely fenced area when he is unsupervised.
As Lutz has a natural tendency to be the Alpha he needs a firm but kind owner so he can work on being an obedient and reliable companion.
Lutz is ok for full time workers (9am-5pm) as long as he is a central focus when people are home.
Another permanent friendly medium to large dog would be nice but not essential.
As Lutz is people orientated he needs to be part of family activities.
He will not suit homes with residents that are:
Reason For Rehoming?
Lutz's strong willed , inquisitive and natural tendency to want to herd anything with wheels means he is escaping from his rural property as it only has low wire fencing. As his owners run a busy business they cannot keep an eye on him all the time and his safety is at risk. Locating him in a confined space is not sustainable and electronic collars are useless.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.
Lutz will suit any of the following:
Medium - playful and moderately active.
When ON a lead ...
Lutz has never really been on a lead - he pulls and battles. He needs training.
When OFF a lead ...
Lutz's recall is not consistent. He cannot be allowed off lead until he receives training.
Type of Yard Required
Ideally Lutz would prefer acreage as this is what he is accustomed to. He may suit a medium to large interesting and secure yard.
Fencing should 1.8 meters high and unable to see through it e.g. colour bond.
He may take advantage of an open gate and wander off.
