How it works

Rehoming and Adopting a pet should be easy, safe and stress free for people and the pet. DOG ADOPTION offers a simple and reliable program to help owners place a pet from their loving home directly to another.

1
Detailed Pet Profile
Owners needing to rehome their dog provide detailed information (Rehoming Questionnaire) for potential adoptees. See Our Dogs
Adopt a Dog
2
Review Applications
Potential adoptees complete an Expression of Interest form with a view to meeting the dog after some initial screening by DOG ADOPTION - to avoid wasting everyone's time.
3
Meet and Greet
DOG ADOPTION will guide both parties through the process of setting safe and pressure-free meetings between owners and potential adoptees. As owners want the right home as much as adoptees want the right dog info is more accurate and placements more reliable.
4
Finalise the Adoption
DOG ADOPTION completes screening and provides advise before both parties make independent decisions. New owners have a 2 week cooling off period.

5
Updates and Closure
New owners provide feedback and everyone can move on knowing the dog has settled into a new loving permanent home.

How are we different?

Surrender a Dog
Personalised and prompt service
Ever experienced one of the following?
  • no phone support
  • enquiries go unanswered
  • applications go unacknowledged
  • if you can get someone on the phone it is often someone different

Not with DOG ADOPTION.
more accurate INFORMATION - for owners and adoptees
By using robust Terms and Conditions for both owners needing to rehome their pet and potential adoptees looking to adopt we can gather more accurate information about:
  • the dogs' medical and behavioural history for the adoptee
  • situation and environment - for the owner

All done respecting your privacy and data.
thorough screening of potential adoptees
Includes ID and address check, reference checks, house assessment and a few more 'tips and tricks'.
protection against time wasters, scammers and bullies
Dog fighting rings, 'tyre kickers', bullies on social media, those seeking to exploit a situation using classified adverts (e.g. Gumtree) are all increased threats. And are often very smooth and convincing. Whether you are rehoming or adopting a pet don't take the risk. Let DOG ADOPTION apply to appropriate screening.
genuine legal safe guards and fail safes
  • Everything is in writing. We respect both owners and adoptees want a contract.
  • In the unlikely event a placement fails, we start again. Even years into the future.
owner has complete control
Pressure free decision making about potential adoptees is ensured because ownership is never surrendered to DOG ADOPTION. It passes from the owner directly to the adoptee.
Understanding and experience
We understand the decision to rehome a pet is very hard and made with a great deal of regret - sometimes guilt and sadness too. Owners will not be judged but applauded for their brave and selfless decision to rehome their dog. We have been doing this since 2011.
Our experience is used to guide owners so they can find the perfect forever home for their pet.
less risk - more certainty
Owners want the right home for their dog as much as adoptees want the right dog for their home.
  • Owners want accurate and proven information about potential adoptees
  • Potential adoptees can use detailed profiles and meetings to make informed decisions.
potential adoptees have more certainty and less risk
There are many well meaning potential adoptees who want to give a dog a new home but are hesitant about a dog with an unknown medical or behavioural history - like those in some rescues and shelters. DOG ADOPTION'S rehoming program has robust rules about disclosure so we can write detailed profiles and provide more certainty and less risk.

Don't worry. We rescue dogs too but these are in our welfare arm and clearly identified as such.

Dog Re homing program
Dog Adoption acts as a liaison between owners who want to rehome their dog/s and folks wishing to adopt. We also provide legal safe guards and transparency while making provisions in case the adoption fails. Significantly the original owner is provided feedback so they can achieve closure.
Foster Care Program
Dog Adoption provides care for genuinely homeless dogs by providing foster homes or kennelling, when available, whilst finding suitable permanent homes. (conditions apply)
Veterinary Care
Vet care is provided for homeless dogs. Dog Adoption also subsidises vet care for dogs in the re homing program (conditions apply).  Sterilisation, micro chip and vaccination is the minimum.
