Fred's Profile

Generally.
Just like others of this breed, Fred will form a strong bond with his family and easily become a loving companion.
Fred’s greatest love is to be with people and he is happiest when outdoors among friends. While excellent with kids, toddlers may get knocked over by a well-meaning dog, so play should always be supervised. We recommend any kids be primary school aged or older. He is a reliable alert dog and can be counted on to bark when there is a person approaching the home. Fred is affectionate, intelligent, co operative and at times strong willed. He is loyal and always eager to please. Fred is always happy to see his owners and wants to hang out and follow them around the house.

He has mastered some commands - sit, stay, down, shake, heel, return, come (sometimes) and eats on command.

While he is usually easy going, Fred’s breeding means he can be dominant (especially when ‘protecting’ his family) and requires a firm but kind alpha owner. He will benefit with more socialisation in a controlled environment.

Ideal home.
Fred requires a home with a large, secure back yard (6' fencing) where his owners are actively seeking a people orientated dog. Fred needs to be involved in family activities and will reward them with unwavering devotion and loyalty.

As this breed tends to be instinctively protective and sometimes dominant, Fred will not suit a novice dog owner. As he is obedient and quick to learn, ongoing socialisation and training should be easy to continue.

He will not suit homes where residents are young, frail, elderly or time poor. Folks who work long hours and who are looking for a playmate for their current dog will not suit Fred as he is too people orientated.

Other dogs?
While Fred is normally fine with other dogs socially he may naturally become territorial around other dogs visiting his home or if rushing into his space or that of family members. He has not had a lot of contact with other dogs but so far prefers females slightly.

Cats?
Fred lives with a 5 yr old cat that tolerates him. As a precaution we would prefer his new home does not have cats.

Kids?
Fred is great around the kids he lives with but as he is also excitable we recommend any kids be primary school aged or older and only if gentle and calm around dogs.

Size.
38 kgs

Exercise requirements?
Medium. Fred is playful and moderately active. He will forgive you if you miss a day but you will have a happier, healthier dog with daily exercise and mental stimulation.

How is this dog on a lead?
Fred is well behaved when walking with his halti-harness. He will also ‘sit and stay’ when commanded.

How is this dog off the lead?
Like most young dogs he is learning to have consistent recall. Fred loves ‘cruising’ around the dog park and usually comes when he realizes you are leaving.

Escape artist?
No

Nuisance barker?
Fred is not currently a nuisance barker but will alert you to something strange around his home.

Destructive?
Fred likes to chew his toys.

Toilet trained?
Yes

Tolerance to being alone.
Yes however, this breed is generally best suited for families with a stay at home parent or for those who don't work long hours because they are extremely people orientated.

Likes.
Fred loves people and is happy to simply ‘hang out’ with his family. Fred is also very food motivated and smart which makes it easier to train him. Belly rubs and playing tug-o-war with people are also high on the list of favourite things to do.

Dislikes.
Fred takes time to warm to new people and doesn’t like being touched on the head by folks he doesn’t know.
