Buster is good with dogs he is familiar with but can act defensively around strange dogs. We think he might be defensive around his family.
Buster is gentle around kids. He has snapped once at a very young child who was climbing over him but this was an isolated incident. We think it was because he was provoked but as a precaution we recommend any kids be teenagers or older and only if gentle and calm.
Approx 12 kgs - he is smaller then you think.
Medium - playful and energetic. He will need daily exercise and mental stimulation. He is not very excitable and rarely jumps up.
How is this dog on a lead?
Like most dogs he is ok unless he sees something exciting, pulling slightly, but he does settle down. If he sees another dog while on a lead he does tend to bark and growl.
How is this dog off the lead?
If you say, "this way" he normally comes back but if there is another dog around then he will go to it.
Buster needs a secure yard as he will wander if a gate is left open.
Nuisance barker or destructive?
Buster will bark if he hears another dog but settles down quickly. He will alert you to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.
Yes. Buster is smart and will let you know when he wants to go outside.
Tolerance to being alone.
Buster has never been alone and has always had another dog for company. We recommend he continues to have a dog for company or someone home more often than not.
He loves his walks and pats. He also likes to be brushed and adores treats.
This breed tends to not like being left in a small space without exercise or mental stimulation.
Buster will need a medium to large secure yard or even acreage. He will need daily exercise and challenged intellectually. Experience with the breed would be preferable. Buster will benefit with some socialisation training so he understands not to be so defensive around those he loves.
Buster will not suit homes with very young, frail, elderly or time poor residents.
Buster is a vocal dog and will humour you with his chatter. He is an affectionate and loyal dog who has a zest for life. He really is quite an adorable character. If off lead Buster tends to run off to interact with other dogs if they are present which the new owner should have the skills and time to work on.
