More About Me
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Rex is typical of blue heelers - forms strong bonds with family, is protective, very intelligent and affectionate. Strong willed, high energy with a natural tendency to nip at what he is playing with or chasing. Bold and athletic, Rex enjoys romping, playing but also spending down time with family.

The breed is known to be assertive with other dogs, and with his natural enthusiastic chasing drive and tendency to nip, can upset other dogs that misinterpret Rex is playing.

Rex likes cuddles, pats, scratches, attention, ute rides, walks, playtime, being near you. He dislikes being ignored.

Rex is loveable, funny, perceptive and goofy. When playing with his toy rope he will swing it around and catch it again. He also picks up on routines quickly and truly believes he is a lap dog.

Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples home more often than not looking for a smart, athletic, entertaining and loyal companion.

Rex may suit a home with another friendly dog for company (preferably female) but this is not essential. He would prefer to be the only permanent dog in the home so he can have all the attention.

Rex prefers someone home more often than not but can cope alone.

While Rex should be good with kids we recommend homes where any kids are at least teenagers and only if gentle and calm around dogs. No dog deserves to be rough housed or exposed to a loud, chaotic environment.

Rex will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.

As Rex is people orientated he needs to be part of family activities.

Rex will not suit homes with residents that are:
  • very young, frail, elderly,
  • renters,
  • novice dog owners or
  • time poor.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
For the most part Rex is quiet and rarely makes a sound - unless it is to alert to something strange. He is not currently a nuisance barker.

Rex will suit any of the following:
  • someone home more often than not.
  • someone that works from home.
  • part time workers.
  • empty nesters.
  • active retirees.

Exercise Requirements
Medium to high. Rex absolutely loves his walks and adventures to the park.

When ON a lead ...
Usually walks well unless distracted but settles again quickly.

When OFF a lead ...
Usually comes when called unless distracted. .

Type of Yard Required
  • Medium to large interesting and secure.
  • May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not usually try and escape.
  • Ok with shoulder height fencing.
