More About Me
The photos say it all - adorable, handsome and sweet but also a cheeky character. Hank's natural herding instinct and friendly, playful nature means this smart, social boy needs an environment where he is mentally stimulated.
Hank's ideal home would be acreage, preferably with another dog, or plenty of contact with his owners throughout the day so that he has sufficient stimulation. However, he would also suit a home where he is taken to the dog park or dog beach every day for enough time to satisfy his enquiring mind.
Being left home alone all day and just taken out for a suburban walk wouldn't suit him - he is too smart and will get bored. Hank is no fool and was born to participate.
Thankfully he is not a highly energetic dog but he seems to be always on alert.
He loves people. Loves other dogs. Loves Life.
As Hank is people orientated he needs to be part of family activities.
He will not suit homes with residents that are very young, frail, elderly, renters, time poor or novice dog owners.
Medium - playful and moderately active - can miss a daily walk as long as he has playtime and mental stimulation.
When ON a lead ...
At the moment Hank has a tendency to want to chase anything that moves in a friendly and playful way - so lead work is a challenge.
Distractions such as people, bikes and prams make outings difficult. If there are no encounters he is a good walker and enjoys a good sniff so is probably better suited to rural life.
When OFF a lead ...
Although his recall can be good, if he spots a push bike or someone running or walking he'll be 100% focused on chasing them to say hi.
Type of Yard Required
Medium to large interesting and secure. Acreage even better. May wander off if a gate or door is inadvertently left open. He would be happier on acreage or a remote property with either another dog or some daily activity and mental stimulation. In this scenario he would not need to be walked.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
He will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.
He will suit any of the following:
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Hank loves people. He is very friendly and trusts everyone. He loves to wrestle, chase and be chased - playtime is fun!! He is good with other dogs and if another dog chases his ball he will immediately stop running and let the other dog take it. He loves to learn new commands and tricks, loves attention and he loves treats.
Hank enjoys training and learns quickly.
He relishes his toys and enjoys playing fetch more than anything in the world !!! He also likes tug of war and completely loves, loves, loves swimming.
He would be happier on acreage, with another dog, and with a few tasks to do - he needs mental stimulation.
